There is one for mobile phones but not for camera.

A mobile phone can exist disabled remotely based on IMEI.  A camera does not have any such thing. Hence even if y'all get such a database it would non assist that much.

For Uk, immobilise.com allows you to annals phones, cameras and other portable valuables in case of theft. This is accessible by UK law through the NMPR database.

I call up this only allows Police to identify the owner if something is recovered. I don't recall anyone can admission the database to check an item (e.thousand. beingness bought) is stolen.

Cheers for everyones posts.

And then then if an detail is listed as stolen, then surely insurance companies share that information with other insurance companies? In other words if yous bought a camera that had been reported stolen and the insurance had paid out then surely you couldn't re insure that camera as you'd take a stolen detail on your hands. So if this is the case there must exist a database somewhere?

Insurance visitor is not going to verify if the camera you ain is stolen. Nobody intendance really. Phone is different since it's now required by law to accept a registry.

There'due south no database, therefore if you buy a stolen camera and it gets stolen yous are covered considering no-one knows is was previously stolen.
